Might be a silly question but could someone tell me whether or not this would bypass the authorized computer stage? For example, if I were to purchase Lion form the App Store and follow these steps, would I then be able to install Lion on a friends Mac that is registered to their Apple ID?
I'm not certain about this (I haven't had a chance to interact with downloading Lion from MAS), but I feel that there wouldn't be a problem. IE, it would be as free for all as the current OS X DVDs.
I have this feeling that the DMG would be a 'pure file', without any of the MAS authorization processes. I have no idea how MAS goes about verifying apps to user accounts, but I don't see the DMG containing anything that would interact with Apple's servers in a way that could disable the OS from being installed or operated...
Just my suggestion. Nonetheless, it should be easy enough to try with no repercussions.
Of course there's the whole obligatory "your friend didn't pay for this, blah piracy blah" matter, but Apple has never cared about authorization with their OS software before, and I'm not sure they will now. The individual developers care about anti-free-sharing measures on their apps, but this aspect has never seemed to concern Apple. They do make their real money from the hardware after all, evidence by the fact that a full, new OS is $30 (was $130 just a couple years ago).
